From 22 to 24 October 2024, Antananarivo, Madagascar will be the epicentre of ideas, innovation, and commitment. It will find itself in the enviable position of hosting the 20th edition of the HIV and AIDS colloquium, an event bringing together professionals comprising health professionals, researchers, policymakers, and HIV and AIDS response advocates from around Madagascar, the Comoros, Mauritius, la Reunion Islands, and the Seychelles.



This is an important event, the challenges the people living with HIV and AIDS go through amidst ever-increasing calls for effective ways of prevention, treatment options, and research into this area within the Indian Ocean region.

The Importance of the Colloquium

The Indian Ocean HIV and AIDS Colloquium has been organized not only to discuss trends in HIV and AIDS but to seriously forge partnerships toward working out strategies for far more effective responses against this continuing health and development crisis. Participation will engage in meaningful discussion and debating all risks in "HIV transmission" factors, and by "antiretroviral therapy," the latest "AIDS treatment options" and emphasizing a collective approach in surmounting the stigma surrounding HIV.

Another fundamental goal of the colloquium is creating awareness in the community with regard to testing for HIV. Indeed, testing is such a critically important activity that plays a huge part in the Comprehensive Prevention Program for HIV and AIDS. By ensuring that individuals know their status, they will be able to link themselves with proper care and treatment accordingly. This colloquium will highlight innovative approaches to increase testing rates, in particular among marginalised populations, who often face barriers to accessing healthcare.

They will discuss global initiatives aimed at addressing issues relating to the prevalence, drivers and social determinants of HIV in the Indian Ocean region. Topics will range from HIV epidemiology to effective public health strategies for HIV, making this colloquium a pivotal moment for collaboration.

It is expected that this could be a major turning-point colloquium in collaboration.

In discussing the current HIV and AIDS situation in countries, it is also important to look ahead and envision the future.  This implies that it is not only about addressing the current status of the epidemic but envisioning the future.
