Though the goal is to end AIDS as a public health issue by 2030, it is argued by policymakers and scientists that the HIV and AIDS response is essential and integral to achieving sustainable development. HIV and AIDS: A Multifaceted Development Challenge HIV and AIDS affect all aspects of society—from economic growth to social stability. Communities hardest hit by the epidemic are profoundly impacted. AIDS not only claims lives but also undermines productivity, disrupts education, and exacerbates poverty.
